Ugh! Why am I feeling depressed now?

After much contemplation, counseling sessions and therapeutic writing I found myself in the midst of another depressive episode. The ‘sly mood monster’ (as previously established it is absolutely permissible to call it names) has settled without any warning which is frustration on two levels.

Breast cancer soon to be detected by a blood test

breast cancerVery soon there will be a blood test available to diagnose and treat breast cancer. Published in The Lancet is an announcement by scientists from Texas that they have discovered a test that can detect circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in the blood. Study of these will help determine the recurrence of breast cancer.

Dear Diary,

The difficult part about liking yourself is accepting yourself, ‘warts and all’.

I wanted to respect and love myself but there were a few things I had to be in order to be loved, even by myself. The term unconditional love seemed non-existent. I was putting off being satisfied and content with who I am because I was hoping to change them. I believed therapy would revamp me into someone whom I could accept and love but on hindsight it seems so unrealistic.

Knowing your comfort

Dear Diary,

My mission to find a burger proved fruitful.

counselling behavioral health psychologyAs silly as it may sound, the burger did have its own healing power. An extra serving of fries did not hurt too. As I enjoyed munching on the junk food, I realized that it could be the one! It could be my comfort food.
Now a comfort food is something which you turn to during a period of crisis. A crisis could be anything from a car break down to an episode of depression; at a time like this your comfort food eases out the rocky path, it is a life boat that gets you through the crisis.
