The HB, TC, DC & ESR test is a four-parameter blood panel that combines Haemoglobin (Hb), Total WBC Count (TC), Differential WBC Count (DC), and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) into a single, cost-effective blood assessment. This combination delivers a simultaneous snapshot of anaemia status (Hb), immune activity (TC and DC), and systemic inflammation (ESR) — making it a practical, clinically informative alternative to a full CBC when platelet count and red cell indices are not the primary clinical concern. No fasting required.
Key benefits of this package include:
What Does the HB, TC, DC & ESR Test Measure?
| Level / Result | Possible Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Low Hb + Elevated TC (neutrophilia) + High ESR | Anaemia with concurrent bacterial infection or acute inflammatory disease — anaemia of chronic disease pattern |
| Low Hb + Normal TC + High ESR | Anaemia of chronic disease — TB, autoimmune disease, or malignancy suppressing marrow and causing inflammation |
| Normal Hb + High TC (lymphocytosis) + Mildly elevated ESR | Viral infection — dengue, EBV, CMV — or CLL in older adults |
| Normal Hb + Normal TC + High ESR (> 60 mm/hr) | Subclinical inflammatory or autoimmune condition — further targeted workup required |
| Low Hb + Low TC + High ESR | Bone marrow suppression with systemic inflammation — aplastic anaemia, advanced malignancy, or severe infection |
| All normal | No significant haematological or inflammatory abnormality detected |
Important Note: HB TC DC ESR does not include platelet count or red cell indices (MCV, MCH) — it cannot characterise anaemia type or detect thrombocytopenia. If platelet abnormality or full anaemia typing is needed, upgrade to a Complete Haemogram (CBC + ESR). All results must be reviewed by a physician.
HB TC DC ESR vs. Complete Haemogram — Choosing the Right Panel: Complete Haemogram (Test 37 — CBC + ESR) includes all HB TC DC ESR parameters plus red cell indices (MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW) and platelet count. If you need to characterise the type of anaemia (iron deficiency vs. B12 vs. haemolytic) or detect thrombocytopenia (low platelets in dengue, ITP), choose the Complete Haemogram. If the primary aim is infection screening, anaemia detection (without typing), and inflammatory assessment in a single test — HB TC DC ESR is a clinically adequate and cost-effective choice.
